10: The Wake

We reach the end of our re-read of the 75 issue run of The Sandman. We discuss the good and the bad in this final collection, then we reflect on the merits of this wonderful series as a whole. And we finish by discussing our plans to cover some of the spin-off titles.

Content Note: The Sandman series deals with and features some particularly dark and troubling subject matters and we have discussed them briefly and in depth in this podcast. Here is a list of some of the subjects that feature in Book 10, The Wake:

References to suicide & depiction of self harm.
Discussion and depiction of slavery & slave ships.
We revisit & discuss events in Dream Country & briefly reference the sexual assault in that book.

If you would like more information about the subjects that feature in the comics and in the podcast

9: The Kindly Ones

The end is near as we discuss the longest story arc from the Sandman. Dream confronts the consequences of his actions and there is some glorious artwork and story-telling, but this wouldn't be A Handful of Dust if we didn't encounter some problems along the way.

Content Note: The Sandman series deals with and features some particularly dark and troubling subject matters, and we have discussed them briefly and in depth in this podcast. Here is a list of some of the subjects that feature in Book 9, The Kindly Ones:

Depictions of dead bodies and blood, including depiction of a dead child.
References to suicide.

8: Worlds' End

We discuss another collection of individual stories, some of which work better than others for us. There is some big foreshadowing for what is to come in the next two volumes, and there is a slice of early 1970s weirdness with an appearance from Prez Ricard.

Content note: The Sandman series deals with and features some particularly dark and troubling subject matters and we have discussed them briefly and in depth in this podcast.

Book 8: Worlds' End includes references to

Depictions of dead bodies and blood.
Depiction of a gunshot victim.
Depiction and discussion of death and funeral rites.
Some homophobic, sexist and racist language
